Misdiagnosing Narcissism - Asperger's Disorder.

) Asperger's Disorder is frequently misdiagnosed as Vain Personality Disorder, though obvious as early as age three. In every case, the patient is self-centered and engrossed in a narrow range of interests and activities. Social and occupational interactions are severely curbed and conversational talents ( the give and take of oral intercourse ) are primitive. The Asperger's patient body language - eye to eye gawk, body posture, facial expressions - is constricted and synthetic, akin to the narcissist's. Nonverbal cues are just about absent and their interpretation in others lacking. Yet, the gulf between Asperger's and pathological narcissism is massive. His social dysfunctioning is the result of conscious haughtiness and the reluctance to invest rare psychological energy in cultivating relations with inferior and undeserving others. His initiative - for example, to share his experiences with nearest and dearest or to take part in foreplay - is frustrated. His capability to divulge his emotions uncomfortable.

A major reason for an Aspies problems with social working is the absence of appreciation of sophisticated social cues and patterns of speech, for example sarcasm. The imaging which has been done means that in people with Aspergers this area of the brain grows and develops much slower whilst other areas grow more quickly. Thus , if they see somebody making a movement with their face and they do not know what it implies, they're not going to copy the reputedly worthless gesture at the right time, if at all. Analogies are not accepted unless the connection is accepted. Both narcissists and Asperger's patients are susceptible to react with depression to understood slights and wounds - but Asperger's patients are much more in danger of self-harm and suicide. He uses language as an instrument to get Vain Supply or as a weapon to obliterate his "enemies" and dropped sources with. Here is a fab piece re asperger syndrome behaviour
