Misdiagnosing Narcissism - Asperger's Disorder.

The Asperger's patient body language - eye to eye gawk, body posture, facial expressions - is constricted and synthetic, akin to the narcissist's. Nonverbal cues are nearly absent and their interpretation in others lacking.

Yet, the gulf between Asperger's and pathological narcissism is massive. His social dysfunctioning is the result of conscious haughtiness and the reluctance to invest scanty psychological energy in cultivating relations with inferior and undeserving others.

Many narcissists reach the highest rungs of their community, church, firm, or voluntary organization. Most of the time, they function perfectly - though the unavoidable blowups and the grating extortion of Vain Supply generally put an end point to the narcissist's career and social liaisons. The Asperger's patient frequently wants to be accepted socially, to have chums, to wed, to be sexually active, and to sire offspring. He just does not have any idea ways to go about it. His initiative - for example, to share his experiences with nearest and dearest or to take part in foreplay - is frustrated. His capability to reveal his emotions uncomfortable. He's incapable or reciprocating and is basically blind to the wishes, desires, and feelings of his interlocutors or counterparties. That implies that it is something that you are born with.

You can't catch Aspergers, nor are you able to cure it. We learn by the method of duplicating one another. We do things that other folk we think we know do. Small chemical signals that control what the brain does. These ones have been labeled mirror neurons because they make your brain think you are basically doing what you are watching somebody else do. After a bit they'd stop listening to the movement at all. Analogies are not accepted unless the connection is accepted. They limit their world to a single subject, hobby, or person and dive in with the best, all-consuming power, excluding all the other matters and everybody else. Therefore , while the narcissist avoids agony by excluding, devaluing, and dropping others - the Asperger's patient achieves the same result by withdrawing and by fervently incorporating in his universe only 1 or 2 people and 1 or 2 subjects of interest. He is equally verbose at times ( and taciturn on other occasions ) but his subjects are few and, so, tediously repeated.
