The Asperger's patient body language - eye to eye gawk, body posture, facial expressions - is constricted and synthetic, similar to the narcissist's. Yet, the gulf between Asperger's and pathological narcissism is huge. His social dysfunctioning is the result of conscious haughtiness and the reluctance to invest scanty psychological energy in cultivating relationships with inferior and undeserving others.
When confronted with potential Sources of Vain Supply the narcissist simply regains his social talents, his charm, and his gregariousness. The majority of the time, they function perfectly - though the unavoidable blowups and the grating extortion of Vain Supply often put an end point to the narcissist's career and social liaisons. The Asperger's patient often wants to be accepted socially, to have mates, to wed, to be sexually active, and to sire offspring. That suggests that it is something that you are born with. You can't catch Aspergers, nor are you able to cure it. An Aspie as somebody with Aspergers is sometimes referred, will have a tendency to have an extremely literal interpretation of language. What you regularly get is a talented student that doesn't know the way to deal with people. This would be considered a delicate cue and these are commonly missed.
He's not likely to obey conversational rules and etiquette ( for example, to let others talk in turn ). Neither is the Asperger's patient able to decode nonverbal cues and gestures or to watch his very own misbehavior on such occasions. Narcissists are in a similar fashion selfish - but only towards those that can't presumably serve as Sources of Narcissistic Supply.
